Jewish Literature Challenge

December 21, 2008 – April 27, 2009

Callista is hosting the second Jewish Literature Challenge beginning in December. There are a few challenges from the 2007-8 challenge. Here are the guidelines:

Read at least 4 books by Jewish Authors or about Judaism (Fiction, Non-fiction, memoirs, Adult books, Teen books, Children’s books, books about the Holocaust, books about anti-semitism, books about Jewish Life, Jewish Culture, Jewish Customs. Books by Jewish Authors no matter what the subject.)

I did this challenge last  year and loved it!  This list is mostly a cross-post with the WWII challenge.  Books that I’ll pool from:

  • Children of the Flames: Dr. Josef Mengele and the Untold Story of the Twins of Auschwitz by Lucette Matalon Lagnado & Sheila Cohn Dekel
  • Dawn by Elie Wiesel
  • Day by Elie Wiesel
  • The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary An Shaffer & Annie Barrows
  • Survival in Auschwitz by Primo Levi
  • If This is a Man by Primo Levi
  • The Zookeeper’s Wife by Diane Ackerman
  • The Cage by Ruth Minksy Sender
  • My Bridges of Hope: Searching for Life and Love After Auschwitz by Livia Bitton Jackson
  • In My Hands:  Memories of a Holocaust Rescuer by Irene Cut Opdyke
  • A Place to Hide, True Stories of Holocaust Rescues by Jayne Pettit
  • The Boy Who Loved Anne Frank by Ellen Feldman
